i am a senior at high school this year. Starting off school i skipped a couple of days but did my work and everything was fine. when one day i got food poisoning and was very ill for 3 weeks .(for the 3 weeks i didnt go to school) when i got better i just couldnt go to school. i felt overwhelmed and scared. i just cuoldnt do it. i found myself very depressed snapping at every word my parents tried to tell me. The school dropped me from school due to my attendance. so my question is ,,,Is there any way i can get homeschooled for the rest of the year...here is my situation as of right now.... i work nights because thats all that makes me feel better or im in bed trying to sleep off this nightmare of not graduating because all of my brothers graduated. my parents keep telling me to go to school. i talked to my counselour and she said all i need to graduate is english 12r , parts in gov't.,and economics...So can i get homeschooled for the rest of the year?or what should i do.

  1. Your parents should be asking this question to the school district offices

  2. Yes, you can.  Your parents can get a copy of your transcript so far from your school, and they can pull you at any time for any reason.  (Whatever you do, don't go to the board of ed or the district admin office for info...they tend to be pretty ignorant of homeschool laws.)

Then, you set a courseload with your parents, get ahold of the resources (http://rainbowresource.com/index.php is a good place to get them) and start in on it.  I think you'll find it takes a lot less time without the distraction and busy work of school.

If you can let us know which state you live in, we can give you more specific information as to the process you need to take.  Each state has its own laws and regs for homeschooling, and while it is legal in all 50 states, you need to make sure to follow them.

    Hope that helps!

  3. If they will accept homeschool credits, yes

If they won't you have to go to night school or some alternative program.

  4. Talk to your counselor and see if she knows of  correspondence courses you can take to fulfill those requirements.  You could select the courses you need and complete the requirements over the next few months.

That would probably be the easiest thing for you to do at this point, and it would be fairly simple to do if you put your mind to it.  You don't have much time left if you want to graduate this year, so get moving!

I used the Texas Tech program for a few courses in high school.
