Can i get internet on my laptop through a phone jack?

i have a laptop but i doesn't have internet access. is there any way to get internet on it through the phone jack in my room? i have a wire that hoks into the phone jack and the computer but it is not working.

Sure, yr laptop comes with an internal modem so all you need is a username and password, check with an Internet Service Provides (ISP), they should help you with any technical problems like setting the connection up as well!

Yes, you can. Of course, you've got to pay your local telephone company for dial-up access though.

first you need an ISP that will provide you with an internet connection. then you need a modem that connects to the phone jack in your room and then  your computer connects to the modem.

You will need a dial-up Internet account. Call your local ISP's (Internet Service Providers) for information.

Your computer can only connect thru a regular phonejack is you're using a dial-up provider. Like Earthlink Dial-up, AOL dial-up, etc. When you use these providers, your computer dials their internet access phone numbers thru their software and connects to the internet that way.

You can't just plug into any old phonejack and get internet.

ISPs like PeoplePC, AOL, Earthlink offer dialup Internet for about $10 per month.

You laptop must have a modem.  Don't confuse a modem jack with an ethernet jack.  You can plug a phone cord into either.  If you look into the jack the phone one has 2 or 4 wires, ethernet has 8 wires.

You can pick up a CD for dialup service at most Best Buy stores.
