  1. no you can't...

that will more then likely just mess up your water

and they sell algae tablets for really cheap.. if u want more algae you should have either bright light or a source from another fish tank that u can take a bit from and put it in urs...

  2. I heard putting terrestrial plant in tanks will put nitrates and nitrites in the water which is bad. If you want algae, put your tank in the window, put an icecube in the filter so it doesn't overheat. Good luck! I'm guessing you want the algae for your pleco. Good luck to you and your pleco!

  3. no, doing that well only bring dirt and bugs into your water, which could end up killing your fish or just making your water really dirty.

and you dont want algae anyway.

  4. why would you want algae

  5. That won't create algae.  What creates algae is plenty of light, especially sunlight, lots of phosphate and nutrients in the water.  If you want to grow lots of algae, take a clean, clear plastic container, take some dirty fish water with lots of fish waste in it and fill up the container and put it outside in the sunshine.  You should have green water full of free-floating algae in a day or two.

You can put dried, brown oak leaves into your tank in order to soften the water and lower the PH, but that has nothing to do with growing algae.

  6. if u want algae just put it in the sun or never clean it.and your fish might try to eat it.it will just mess your tank
