Can i get tabs for somone elses car if they are expired?

My aunt is going out of town and she just realized that her tabs are expired. We were wondering if i could go pay and get them for her. Cause they expired 3 months ago and she just found the thing that she ment to go get them. BUt she leaves tomorrow at 4 in the morning to phylidelphia and cant get to the tabs place in time. I live in the state of washington and dont want to get pulled over cause i dont want to risk loosing my license with another ticket as i allready have one.

To be certain, call your local DMV or visit their web-site.  I live in CA and I went into the local DMV office and paid the registration fees for my boyfriends truck and rec'd a 2-month temp. operating permit. In order to get the reg. completed and receive tags, the vehicle has to pass smog (because it is a new sale, after initial reg. smog is required every other year) and it has to be insured.  DMV offices in CA verify smog results and proof of insurance through their computer.
