well am trying to apply for french citizenship or passport, based on that my father is algerian and born 1947, and he is holding a '' certificat de recensement'' ( certificate of census) issued by the french republic, i mean he was considered a french citizen back then, i dont know if he still..( he passed away recently)..and i still have that certificate..

and i was born in algeria in 1983, and i have been living in united arab emirates for 15 years.. now am a general dentist and i would like to do my speciality in france...

and i think the french citizenship will help alot...

so could you please inform me with anything that may help my case...

and thank you so much in advance

  1. Where are you now?? I beleive that if your father was  born in France then you shouldnt have a problem getting residency although im not sure about how france works.. you cannot get a passport until you are a resident I think..

You need to contact a French embassy where you are, and contact the consulate for more infromation.

  2. it all depends on what happened on Independence of Algeria from France on July 3rd 1962 ?many Algerian opted to take back their nationality, therefore refuting french nationality, and at that time, lost the french nationality,

the certificat the recensement, was established at the time when Algeria was under french government, but, it has nothing to do with the nationality,

if you do not have his actual citizenship? the likelihood of him being french,is probably none,

is there not anyone in your family that would be able to tell you, if, at Independence his family kept french nationality?

if do you not have in your possession his birth certificate, and citizenship

for with only the certificat de recensement, you will not be able to find out if indeed he was still french...

when he passed away, you could look on the death certificate,it would be mentionned,
