Can i get your thoughts on this?

4 days ago my 6 year old slammed his hand in the front door, i checked it and he didn't break it, so i cleaned up his hand and he was fine.....today he came up to me and showed me his finger and it had swollen on top just under the cuticle. his finger was not feverish so i dont think its infected. i dont know what it is, my husband took him to see his doctor but the wait to find out is making me batty....what could have possible caused the swelling on his finger 4 days after he hurt it?and for those who wonder why i didnt go with them to the doctor, we have 3 other kids at home that i had to stay here to care for.....

It could have been from something else. Sometimes kids get hurt without telling you and it might not have anything to do with him getting his hand slammed in the door. I wouldn't have taken him to the doctor either if he stopped crying and everything looked alright.

May still be infected, just delayed signs.  Best bet is the doctor.  May also have broken the nail inside and it is growing wrong.  Could be hairline fracture.  Wait and see what the doc says.
