  1. I have both as well. I know mine LOVE cherrios! They also enjoy carrots, crackers, strawberries, apples, sunflowers and peanuts. Give them to them as treats - like 1- 2 times a week. Too much of anything is not good for them. I have never seen anything saying they could have cheese, and I have read a lot on both types of animal.

  2. Preferably not.  These really aren't "foods", they are man made products and contain other things like colours and preservatives etc.  Best to stick to greens like parsley and real seeds and nuts etc.

  3. Go to your local pet store - they have specialist food. Seeds and cereal etc.

Rule of thumb - Remember the last time you watched the discovery channel - were there any pretzel eating animals there?

Salty food is bad. Dairy products can be bad too. Crackers, pretzels etc contain too much salt - bad.

They do like meal worms and grubs/beetles etc.

  4. probably not. food not meant for them, will disturb their digestive system, which could be dangerous since they are so small, and have sensitive tummies. diarrhea could rapidly kill them. stick to food specifically for them. its not worth taking chances. wood stick chews are good to satisfy their need to chew. and its safe.

  5. stay away from anything with high sodium.  you can give them cheese in little amounts.  they can also eat a little egg.  you can give them fruits or vegetables but in small amounts.  too much fruit or vegetables can give them diarrhea.  they seem to enjoy cheerios or plain popcorn.  at least mine love them.

stick with your regular food as their primary source of food.  they need their protein and fats.  anything mentioned is considered a treat for their diet so all that is best in moderation.

  6. i give my gerbils cheese once in while for a treat (probably not a good idea).  but a much healthier snack is stuff like carrots, lettuce, cucumbers, berries, watermelon, banana (mine LOVE that), apple, or any other fruit or veggie:)

  7. no. those foods are not good for them. try vegetables, like carrots.

  8. in moderation, like humans, animals ( gerbils & hamsters ) can get fat and have health problems as a result of their diet.

  9. A little treat once in a good while b/c u love them not all the time.  They deserve carrots, lettuce and all green leafy things and fruit too.

  10. Cheese is very fattening for rodents, you can give them cheese once in a while. Crackers are fine, when I don't have rat food and I don't have time to go to the store I usually feed them crackers. Pretzels I have only tried once, they loved it so I would assume that the pretzels are OK. Just don't feed them these good treats to often.

  11. yes! they like ceareal too!!!

  12. I Have Known My Hamster To Like Grapes, Strawberries, Lettuce And Bits Of Cereal.

Whereas Gerbils Like Lettuce, Carrots, Anything Like Seeds And Bits Of Cereal Aswell As Hamsters.

  13. It's probably not too good for them, but I assume it's alright. I have a gerbil and she loves Fruit Loops. LOL. She doesn't get them often but sometimes as a little treat.
