  1. You can give your kitty people food, just be cautious.  You want to avoid foods high in sodium and other spices, fat and sugar.  The first link is a list of foods that are toxic to kitties.

At the second link is a nice website for cat nutrition written by a veterinarian.  It is in a nice and easy format.  She talks about wet, dry and raw diets.  She also gives good information about some of the common kitty illnesses caused by poor diet.

    Purrs to you and kitty.

  2. It's not a good idea to give your cat people food, one the cat can start to beg for your food, 2 it can keep them from wanting their own food and 3 it can make the cat sick. So I would let them eat cat food only.

  3. You can feed your cat people food, but it is not recommended.  People food is completely difference nutritionally than cat food.

However, if you are set on giving him people food, stay away from chocolate - it is poisonous.  I don't know of any other truly poisonous foods - but please check with your vet before giving him people food.

As with humans trying new stuff, keep the portions small and watch for bad reactions such as throwing up.  Also, you will want to keep an eye out for bad reactions long term - such as your cat becoming more lethargic or nastier in attitude.  These are signs the cat is unwell, perhaps eating too much or eating something that doesn't agree with him.

I highly recommend talking in depth with your vet before starting to feed him people food.   There are tips and gotcha's that the vet will be most likely to know.

  4. Any food that isn't specifically for cats is going to be unhealthly for them if given in large amounts.

But little treats every now and then shouldn.t do any harm.  Here's a few things my cats like, although some of them are a bit strange.

(And b4 everyone starts abusing my for mistreating my animals, some of the things are stuff my kids have dropped and the cats got there b4 me).

Tuna, (yes it is ok as long as you don't feed them ONLY tuna or ALL the time).  Cheese, Ham, Chicken, Egg, (helps their coats shine), all other types of fish, Bread and Butter!, Mushrooms!!, Pizza!!!! and Crisps!!!! (strange, but true).

Just don't over indulge them, or they will get too fat and this isn't good for them.

  5. All people food is unhealthy for cats AND dogs. If you don't feed a dog people food:

    1. They won't beg

    2. They will live longer

It's bad to get pets in the habit of eating people food.

Cat food is made FOR cats. You should feed them that, and ONLY that.

  6. No

    Give your cat CAT food.

Make sure the dry food is for urinary tract health.

Can food is good but not necessary until the cat gets old.

You can put a drop of lemon juice in the water so the cat won't get crystals.

Human food is not good for cats.  The cat food is balanced and has menerals that keep the cat from going blind etc.

An occasional treat is ok but not as a steady diet.

  7. You can-it won't kill him but I would not advise it. They develop bad habits such as begging and jumping on the table and just being annoying when you are eating it.

Also, people food is not necessarily good for a cat. They can become overweight and may not have a tolerance for people food.

Just stick to cat food. Overall, better not to start them on it. I have three cats. One has always liked people food and now is old and skinny because he has a thyroid disease. We give him people food because he is old and can use the extra fat. He begs and is very annoying whenever we are eating. The other two are younger and not allowed to have people food although they like it.

FYI My cats are 17, 4 and three. The 17 year old is the only one allowed to have people food and besides the disease he has which he has had before he was allowed to have people food, he is healthy.

  8. Why bother?

  9. its best not to because they might be allergic to some of the ingredients. I would check with the vet first.
