  1. No, you need to wait about a month before you do that. You need to make sure that it trusts you before doing that.

Only give it 3-4 baths a year.

  2. Definitely not.

If you've only had your guinea pig for a day you shouldn't even be handling it unless it's absolutely necessary. Guinea pigs are VERY easily stressed and yours will need a few days to get used to its surroundings before you even start to pick it up and handle it, let alone bathe it. Unless your guinea pig is very dirty, it won't need a bath anyway.

  3. NO!

let it get used to it's surroundings first, you shouldn't even be handling it the first WEEK. I would say, in about a month you can give it a bath. But don't use shampoo! They have extremely sensitive skin!!

  4. Yes and no. I can't stress enough the importance of cleaning your pets. I think a lot of people are still stuck in the middle ages when bathing was seen as a source of evil lol. Don't use baby shampoo, but if you must use an organic oatmeal one that will not dry the skin. I personally use rabbit shampoo on my rabbit, g. pig, rats and 8 week old kittens and not only does it leave them clean, but has them smelling good (especially rats who have that musky smell). Its also great to bath your pets in luke warm water in the summer it will cool them off. Bath during the day, the best time would be between 11 am and 3pm when the temp is usually at its peak. Avoid shampooing the face and getting water in the ears. Towel thier ears after the bath to get any dirt outside the canal. I even brush their teeth without toothpaste, but it doesn't make much of an impact.

Make sure after you bath them you towel them down and you don't put them in front of a fan or in a A/Ced room or somewhere else where the temp is extreme. I usually put them in my room in the summer because my room is never below 70 or higher than 85.  When your finished make sure your pet has plenty of water to drink and if you have a little pet cologne you can spray some on your hand and gently rub it on him once he's dry, but only a little bit.

I do not advise you to bath your pig now or for the next week or two. I wouldn't even handle him much now. Just talk to him and give him treats. Put him somewhere you tend to spend lots of time in so he realizes you are now a fixture in his life. If he smells you can wipe him with a shampoo free hand towel. Avoid paper.

Most mammals can and should be bathed at least every three months though once a month is my preferene. Anything smaller than a rat can be wiped with a wet shampoo free towel.

  5. There really is no reason to bathe your guinea pig yet, why do you even want to? Guinea pigs can go their whole lives without being bathed. Unless your guinea pig is having certain skin problems or is starting to smelly really funky, you don't need to give her a bath. It would really upset a new guinea pig who is just getting used to you to give her a bath just yet. Don't even hold this new guinea pig for more than five minute intervals a few times a day, it's very stressful for a guinea pig to move into a new home and you don't want to freak her out. You should definitely handle her daily though, because she should get used to her new home.

  6. Sure! If he smells then just give him a bath if you think he needs one but only put baby shampoo.

  7. Scrub that PIG!!  I have had and bred pigs for years.  Scrub away in the bathtub, lukewarm, only a couple inches deep.  Use ONLY baby shampoo.  Dry VERY well.  Never permanent press cycle.  Just kidding, a towel is better suited.  He could get stuck in the exhaust.  Again kidding.

  8. Why do you want to give it a bath? New pigs often will just sit and shiver until they are comfortable and start to explore their new surroundings. The only one I ever bathed right away was one I brought home from a rescue that had all sorts of crud stuck in his fur and his feet and he stunk like h**l. In fact I named him little stinker.

  9. If it is a trusting guinea pig it should be fine, I gave all of mine baths and they loved, it i also gave my rabbit a bath by accident (he jumped in the water and he was dirty so i was like what the heck) even against other peoples suggestions and he is fine, and he loves the water now. Anyways!!

Just dont do it too much I clean all my guinea pigs (9) and my two rabbits every three months, and clip their nails every month, unless they dont need it (sometimes they go outside on the concrete more than other months)

But it all depends on your piggie. fill the sink up a little and set him/her in it. then if he likes it go ahead *it might make some noise, but dont let that scare you off, it might mean he likes it* but it he tries to get out, scratches or freaks out i would advise against it, and get the leave on guinea pig cleaner that doesn't involve water. It's at places like Petsmart.

  10. Guinea pigs do not require frequent bathing. Like most animals they tend to self clean. As long as you keep their cage neat and clean, there should be no need for a bath. Long haired pigs will however require brushing. If necessary, they can take a bath once every 4-5 months.

To bathe- put your little piggy in a small tub and add a small amount of warm water. Do not cover the mouth or nose. Use a small animal shampoo (not human) to wash him. Rinse well. Towel dry.

Be sure to be very careful. Bathing can be a traumatic and stressful situation for your little one.

  11. no point really every month might be good

i would use guinea pig shampoo

if he isn't stinky no need to to waste shampoo
