  1. yeah you can, my Oscar eats them, and he is fine, it also eats peas, cherry tomatoes, mealworms... etc.

  2. That's what the oscar eats in the wild - other smaller fish. Live food will help them grow much faster. You just have to change the water more often because blood from the  feeder fish will contaminate it faster than processed food. If you are not into seeing blood and violence, you can stick to cichlid pellets.

  3. yes they are bad because it can give them HITH.

  4. h**l yeah! they will love you for it!

  5. Well it is true in the wild oscars do tend to eat smaller fish and it is actually healthy for them just feed it small shrimp, feeder guppies, or fresh/frozen bloodworms

  6. There are a few reasons not to choose feeder fish as a food sorce.  All these reasons have been pointed out by different people so they are all right.

First off they are not usually kept in the best conditions, this could make it easy to introduce a disease or paracite to your tank.

Secondly, they are not that nutritional and are not good for your fish.

That leads to the third point being that they have been proven to lead to HITH disease.  This is because they contain an enzyme that breaks down in the Oscar creating a vitamin deficency.

It is best if you want to feed live foods, to stick to insects and worms, they are a lot better for the Oscar and will simulate what their diet is in their natural habbitat.  Below is a great article for you to read about Oscar food and feeding, hope this helps.

  7. yes as long,as they are small enough.

  8. The only reason feeding your oscar feeding fish might be bad for your oscar is that many times feeder fish bought from the pet store are diseased or unhealthy because they are kept in such poor conditions.  A lot of them are crammed into too small of tanks and end up getting ich or fin rot, which they can pass on to your oscar before they die.  It's not that feeding him fish is bad, it's just the risk of feeding him ill fish is too great.  As long as you quarantine the fish first and make sure they are healthy, or find a breeder with healthy culls you can get, or even better, breed your own feeder fish, they are a great source of protein and he will love getting to hunt and eat live food.

  9. I respectfully disagree with GSF though usually I find her on target.  Feeder fish are a poor diet choice as she said for that reason as reason number 1, and number too is that feeder fish are often very poor as a source of nutrition too.  You can get by far better results using a Pellet which most Oscars will gladly accept, Brine Shrimp, Blood worms, and even a Spiralina based Flake food.  There are so many other choices of better foods, I wouldn't even consider using feeder fish as a food source.
