  1. If you are a US Citizen or green card holder, and you are not flying to Canada, you can still enter, and more importantly, return to the US from Canada without a Passport.

If you are traveling via airplane, you must travel on a passport or the new passport card.

If you are driving into Canada, however, you may travel with proof of citizenship (usually an official copy of your birth certificat) and a government-issued photo id (usually a drivers license.)

This will change sometime next summer per the US State Department.

  2. If you fly, yes, if you walk or drive over not at this point.  However, by January 2009 you must ave a passport.

  3. no way.

  4. For now, if you're American, you can drive over the boarder with your birth certificate and driver's license, but you can't fly. And soon you'll need a passport.
