  1. The US government regulations for foreign students to attend a public high schools in the United States are that the student:

*may attend for no more than one academic year

*must pay the unsubsidized cost of the academic year

*must be at least 15 years old

You need to choose the school you want to attend and ask them if they can process a SEVIS-issued I-20 form, so that you can apply for the F-1 student visa.  If the school has no idea what you're talking about, ask them to contact the State Department in the state they're located.

The other option is to apply through an exchange organization, although this will be a much more expensive option.  Check the Council on Standards for International Education and Travel website (www.csiet.org) for a list of these organizations.

To attend a private high school, the visa regulations are much more relaxed age and time limit restrictions.  For a list of private schools, visit www.tabs.com.

  2. You'd have to give a lot more information for someone to be able to help you with this question.  Information such as how it is you're in the US is vital.  Different visa statuses have different answers to that question.  I recommend you get in touch with your local school district.  They'll be able to tell you what is OK for you.  Chances are you can go to school here.

  3. Generally speaking, it is quite difficult for a foreign student to attend a public American high school unless they do so through a recognized exchange organization. The best place to look is www.csiet.org -- those are organizations certified to operate in the U.S. Reliable ones tend to be Aspect, AFS, ROtary, YFU.

Program fees can range between $7,000 - $10,000 for a year.  Rotary is the cheapest, but most competitive. Those program fees will include air fare, insurance, school and host family placement, orientations and support. Details vary with the program.

The other method is to come on an F-1 visa. However, many high schools don't want to mess with the paperwork. Also, if you are on an F-1 in high school, depending upon the state, you may not be eligible to participate in any activities such as sports, band, etc. Kansas is one of those states. Also, for an F-1 visa, you must have a place to live while here AND proof of financial independence. So, it can quickly add up to being more expensive than an exchange program with fewer benefits.

Like a previous poster noted, the easiest method of attending  a high school in the U.S. is boarding school.

    Good luck!
