  1. dont think so but i found some 'spuds' in my daughters ears this morning lol

  2. You would need to empty the water out and fill it with soil but it should be fine.

Americans on here will be impressed that you can grow potatoes in your butt!

  3. yes you can because as long as there is room and they have nutrients in the soil and a bit of water they will grow anywhere

  4. Potatoes will grow fairly quickly if conditions are right, but if you keep them too moist you'll find most of your crop rotting. Thus you can use a water butt (aka, rainwater catcher or water storage) but you'll want to make sure it is able to drain, ie put holes in the bottom.

My mother has a large garden and with crops that fruit underground, she either puts them in raised beds or sinks planks or bricks to below the level of the tuber or underground fruit to help keep bugs and worms away from them. Doesn't always work, but....

Potatoes will grow quickly in the right conditions, but you're still talking several week. You should be able to harvest most varieties 2 to 3 weeks after the flowers die.

  5. no, they would get wet!

  6. You could grow potatoes in it if you want to put holes in the bottom for drainage, which would ruin your water butt.  You could have potatoes two months after planting.

  7. I have a large butt too, but it's made of more than water!  AHH HA HA HA HA HA!  LMAO!

    Sorry.  Have a good day.

    ***EDIT***

    Lighten up!!!!   **SIGH**  Seriously.

  8. Yes you can, I'd put in about 3 seed potatoes,

I put mine in a compost heap, I get real good spuds!

  9. Get some seed potatoes, put them in and just  cover with soil.

when you see shoots put another layer in and do like wise.

When the barrel is full, stop

  10. yes but it will need holes in it       put 4 inch of loam soil in the bottom then cover them over with more soil cover the shoots once a week as they grow as potato s are formed on the buried stem   as the grown plants flower or  start to wilt the potato s will be ready underground

  11. yes, you can....

  12. lol

    lmao

    rofl

    lmfao

    u said butt

  13. Yes - but it is getting late to plant them now.  Also, in a waterbutt you will probably only be able to grow one plant so it's hardly worth the effort of filling it with soil etc.  Why not grow them in a grow bag like Jamie Oliver did?  He set it up lengthwise against the wall and cut a few slits in the bag and planted the potatoes in there.  Sorry - I dont have a link to this programme.  If you plant them before the end of August, you should have some in October.
