Hi guys, i was thinking about getting a small 4cm/5cm tattoo on my wrist and wondered if this would hinder me as I am currently studying for my social work degree at uni. I really want it done and always thought it could be covered up with long tops or a watch or bracelets?

  1. That would be descrimination against you and social working is a field where you cannot descriminate. It is your skills and talent that matter, not if you have a tattoo.

  2. As an ex medical rep, I've seen hospital consultants with tattoos, so don't think twice about it, but in my opinion I would keep it as taste-full as possible which I'm sure you will.

  3. It's so hard to say.  I've tattooed many social workers, but at the same time, they've already been employed at there job.  A lot of employers don't mind it, but unfortunately that doesn't go with everyone.  Make sure you actually can cover it properly before getting it tattooed.  I know it's very tempting, but I maybe would suggest holding off until you're further into your career status.  If you Do decide to get it done though, theres always a way around it, especially for the smaller tats.

    Good luck with everything!

  4. There's no reason why you couldn't be a social worker - Everyone has there own tastes, etc. as long as it will not offend anyone, then I think it should be okay. If you are really worried, ask in advance, or cover it up.

But remember the risks of getting a tattoo1

    Hope this helped... :-)

  5. My dad used to work as a social worker and has a whole sleeve of tattoos on both arms and hair almost down to his bum lol! Don't worry! You'll be fine! x

  6. Honestly, most people probably won't even notice a wrist tattoo. I have two of them that take up my whole wrist, and one of my bosses didn't even notice for 6 months. Now, most bosses are gonna be a little more okay with tattoos because SO many people have them. And yes, you can cover them up. But unless your wrists are facing up, no one will really notice.

  7. Sorry but I always associate people who have tattoos as having very low mentality.  I know they are fashionable now but do you really need some permanent little picture on your wrist for the rest of your life.    If you are good looking then there is no point to them and if you are overweight they make you look even worse.  If you want to wear something on your wrist then invest in something more classier like a nice Cartier watch,

  8. it is now very common for people in all jobs to have tattoos and i have seen healthcare workers/care workers with them, i think it will be fine as long as u r happy to cover it up at appropriate times where necessary.

  9. Hi i'm not sure if it helps but i am at university studying to be a mental health nurse and no one questions my wrist tattoo,

on my first placement i asked them if they wanted me to cover it and they said no it's fine and it turns out quite a few of the nurses i was working with had visible tattoos.

I know it's a different field but we are kinda working in the same profession.

Having a tattoo doesn't mean you are unable to do your job properly!!

Good luck :) (it doesn't hurt that bad, trust me!)

  10. you most certainly would, they couldn't stop you.

Besides they employ social workers from all different back grounds for a reason. Get what you want its your body. Doesnt alter the person inside.

  11. I dont think it would be much of a problem, tattoos are way less of a taboo these days. So long as its not offensive or too obvious then it should be fine. My doctor has a full sleeve tattoo and it hasn't held him back at all!
