I don't want to overfill the tank with useless things so what would be essential in the tank for the 4 guppies?

  1. A filter, heater and light are the only essentials, the rest is up to you! Yes male guppies can go together w/o any females. In a 10 gallon you could have a ton more if you like! As long as you keep up with your water changes you could have around 10-15 of them (" per gallon rule is useless i.e. 12 guppies use less waste than a 12" oscar)

hope i helped answer your question!

  2. 4 guppies in a 10gal tank will work fine. You could go up to 10, but the tank will need good filtering and more water changes if you put more fish in.

What you NEED is a filter and a heater, anything else is optional. But most people add some gravel, some rocks or ornaments, piece of driftwood or some plants. Good to have, but all optional. Air bubbler wont be needed for 4 guppies, but if you like the look of bubbles you can add one.

You could add a large snail, or some shrimp if you like. They will help control algae.

Alternatively you could keep some dwarf cory cats.

But those other fish or inverts are optional, you can just keep the 4 guppies if you want, and the tank will be easy care.

  3. That sounds about right

In a 16 gallon you can have 8 or a little more with good care

    so that sounds good

also the males prevent having babies and overpopulating

What is essential? Do you want live plants in your tank?

You're gonna want gravel (of course)

Put things in the tank that you like. Set a theme

Mine is tranquil. I have blue and sea green gravel rocks. I have three plants that are as tall as the tank

and then i have a Buddha head in my tank.

A few other little cute things as well

    Do it to your taste

    it's the fun part

  4. It depends on the size of the fish- 4 guppies should be okay because I believe it is like 1 1/2 inch of fish per gallon of water, or something like that....

  5. you could have 5 if you wanted

  6. The general rule for fish keeping is one inch of fish = one gallon. So for example, in a 50 gallon, 50 inches of fish can be kept, like 50 one inch fish etc. In your case, a ten gallon, so you could very well get 10 guppies, but I suggest 8, and just put a few patches of densely planted areas, where they can hide if they're getting picked on... GOOD LUCK!
