i really want a pet snake? but i do not know what is the laws for having pet snakes here in New zealand, or even where too buy one?

could someone please help me, is it legal too have a pet snake/ also what are the requirements if it is?

and where would i get one?

  1. It would be illegal.We do not have snakes and it is illegal to bring them into the country. So, no you cannot have a pet snake in New Zealand!


  2. New Zealand is one of the few countries in the world that does not have snakes. Yes they are illegal and the times they have found one that has stowed away on a ship then that ship is fumigated and searched thoroughly.

  3. The law is quite clear.

    You may NOT have a snake in NZ.

    The penalties run into hundreds of thousands of dollars + jail.
