Can i hire a car in the UK with my SA licence?

Question

I heard some car hire companies require proof of residency. What do I do if I’m a South African resident that’s only visiting the UK for a few weeks? We can enter the UK without a visa so don't even have that. The only thing will be an SA passport.

I went with my NZ drivers licence and passport....I was able to drive in the UK for a year without a UK licence...after that I had to get a UK licence. I hired a couple of cars in the UK and had no probs ( just using my NZ stuff)......

You can get an international licence ( which you get before you leave SA.)..but I think thats mainly for non-english speaking countries to translate......

As long as you hire a car that you hold a valid licence to drive, then there should be no reason that you cannot hire a car here.
