I want to be able to do everything i want to in highschool like choir and drama and stuff, but i will have to end up dropping some of my electives because of required classes. A foriegn language would be easy to homeschool and i want to do it. Will they let me and still go to regular school and will it count on my record? If so where can i find homeschooling material for a foriegn language? thanks!

  1. Teach sign language for a language. It's universal, and is

highly in demand. For the deaf, hospitals, courts, security, etc.

Plus it's fun. All that rolled into one. <}:-})

  2. one or the other...either you are in a homeschool program, or you are an on-campus student...you can't pick a class or two to take at home.

  3. There are several answers to this particular conundrum. You can take correspondence courses. You can learn a second language on your own and challenge the exam at the end of the year. You can go to night school and take extra courses.

Depending on where you live, you may be able to find a Saturday school in an ethnic community, where they teach a foreign language. The advantage to that is you get to practise with other people.

    Good luck to you.

Contrary to what some other people have told you, you can homeschool and in-class school at the same time. Two of my grandsons are currently doing just that.

  4. This really depends on your state and your school district. Here in San Jose, CA students can enroll in the local district's Independent Study Program and attend a few classes on campus, the rest at home. These students may also go out for sports.

  5. This will depend on your school district and where you take the classes away from the B&M school.  You could possibly do dual credit with a community college.

The tricky issue is the high school accepting your credits or not for your graduation requirements.

If you just want to HS for all of it, there may be a HS co-op you could join for the choir and drama.  I live in a small city and our co-op has music, guitar, drama, journalism, all types of math, and other high school classes.  The students have a blast!

  6. Yes.  Most online high schools allow you to be a part time student, and sometimes the opposite, too.

    Good luck!

  7. Yes and no.  In most areas, you will not be able to get credit for anything you do in "homeschool" as long as you are enrolled in the public school (there are a few areas where this is not true, but in general).

HOWEVER... you could certainly learn the material on your own and then "test out" of the college level courses after you graduate high school.  There are AP and CLEP tests available for almost every area of study.  You might also consider a program (like the one at Texas Tech University) where you can take high school courses a la carte (for a fee) and receive credit (from the school administering the course) upon successful completion.

Below is a list of what's available through TTU ISD.  They also offer CBE (Credit By Exam) where you don't have to take the course, just take the "final exam" to get credit.

  8. u have to do one or the other
