Can i hook up speakers140W each to a 240W amp?

Im getting a very good price on these speackersand amp so i want to keep both. Wil lthe speakers run just fine or would i need a stringer amp

  1. That amp will work fine. This is one of the reasons they are adjustable. Having a amp that can provide more watts than you need is not a bad thing unless it is way too big. That amp will not have to work as hard and will sound better than a smaller amp working at its full potential.


  2. the 140W speakers have NO correlation as to their power handling ability

    the 240W on the Amp has no correlation as to the power output of the amp.

    Look a LOT closer to the box, Not the Advertising Blurb 240W.

    The Amp's continuous, average or RMS (all 3 are the same thing using a different term) power output.

    Its probably 40 watts per channel at 1% distortion.

    The Speakers will also have a continuous power input figure.

    Probably 35 watts.

    Will you damage the speakers?

    Depends on your abuse.

    Crank up the bass the amp will clip. the sound will distort, the clipped signal on a scope looks like a square wave, that square wave will smoke the speakers.

    Keep the volume way down if the bass is cranked and you'll do OK.
