  1. A standard socket is called an "A" socket or an Edison socket ant it have no wattage limitation on it. You can find 25watt, 60 watt, 75 watt, 100 watt and even 150watt bulbs that will fit that socket.

The limiting factor is how well built the light fixture is. All light fixture should have a wattage rating sticker on them. If you can't  find it or it has been removed I would stick with the 60 watt lamp. I the socket is porcelain and the fixture is all metal then you should be fine with a 75 watt bulb,

  2. You should not exceed the wattage requirement of the fixture.  Traditional, incandescent  light bulbs generate a lot of heat and if you exceed the rating you are creating a fire hazard.  Although, in theory the total heat generated by two 60 watt bulbs is greater than a single 75 watt bulb, it doesn't really work that way.   Heat effects can be localized and having too much heat in one small spot can be dangerous.  Since you can burn your house down by s******g this up, best to play it safe.

If you find the 60watt bulb isn't bright enough, consider getting a compact fluorescent bulb.  These bulbs generate lots less heat and use far lower wattages than traditional lightbulbs.  You'd have to check the wattage ratings on the individual bulbs you buy, but you could probably get the equivalent light from a 100watt incandescent bulb out of a 60watt maximum socket with no trouble if you use a fluorescent.

  3. n,better don't  do thes

  4. Never put a higher wattage bulb than what is labeled on the lamp.  It can cause a fire.  I would assume that each socket is 60w.

  5. Why don't you by compact fluorescent bulb.  It only uses 23 watt and puts equivalent to 100 watts.  You will get more light and be saving money at the same time.

    Good Luck

  6. yes you can but if the socket is rated for 60 watts a 75 watt can cause heat build up.

there are two sockets so you can install two bulbs to have more light.
