Ok, I have a laptop now with a burnt out motherboard. I also have a pc without a hard drive, and dvd drive. Is it possible for me to transfer the hard drive and the dvd drive to the pc? If it is possible is there anything special i need to purchase to make it happen? Thanks

  1. You can install a laptop drive to work with a pc - there are 2 ways

1 . Buy a small adapter that you can connect the HD via IDE cable

    2. Buy a usb adapter that you put your HD into and set your PC to boot from USB - but this is not very fast if you are running it off of boot.

Best buy the USB caddy and put the drive into it - then buy a normal HD for your PC (costs buttons) and use your laptop HD as removable storage

  2. yes. as long as the interface is the same on the motherboard and on the laptop hard drive. ATA or SATA for example. older computers will have ATA and newer laptops will be SATA.

They even make brackets to s***w onto your laptop harddrive so it will fit in the normal hard drive bay on your desktop.

  3. yeah a normal pc tower can take a laptop hard drive just like a regular one, but you would need a caddy to hold the 2.5"drive because they are usuially made to hold regular 3.5" drives (however i prefer to use 2.5" drives as external hard drives in enclosures)

  4. you will only be able to do the hard drive. to do so, you will need a 2.5"->3.5" converter hardware. as far as your dvd drive goes, well not much you can really do with that. click on the link and you will see the hard drive converter hardware.

  5. The DVD will probably not work.  But you can get the Hard Drive connected to the PC.  You have to purchase a converter because the IDE cable is much larger, and the power is much different on the desktop.

Different laptops have different connections, so I would try www.zipzoomfly.com or www.tigerdirect.com to find the adapter you'll need.  Good luck.

  6. Yes you can. Depending on the type of interface your laptop hard drive is and I'll assume its a non sata type drive then you can get a laptop to IDE adapter. Here's a link to one if you want to know how it looks like.
