Can i install softwares on my portable hard disk?

Question

Recently i bought a portable hard disk n my internal hard disk is kinda full now.. n i want to install some softwares on my pc such as adobe photoshop cs3 n so on... so i wanted to kno is that whether can i install these softwares on my portable hard disk n run them thru the portable hard disk usin my pc..? n my portable hard disk is connected to my pc usin a USB cable...

please help thanks

Yes you can portable hard disk has same use as internal hard disk.

Not an easy question to answer. A lot will depend on the software you want to install. With photoshop CS3 you can install some of the program on a disk other than your system drive, but a large chunk of your program will still be saved to and running on your system drive.

The short answer for Photoshop will be "no". It is far too system dependent and resource intensive for that.

Other software, like I said, will allow you to install almost the complete program to whichever drive you choose, but most windows programs will still write to the registry, which is on your system drive. Being a "portable" drive, you will still only be able to use such programs on the PC on which you installed it, due to the registry keys needed to run the program and their dependency on other modules in the Windows environment.
