  1. you Have to keep the hamster in a wire cage because the need fresh oxygen all the time. the tank would keep the air in and become stale. plus.. if you spray any deodorant in the room it can get trapped in the tank and your hamster will get 'high' and eventually die! i know this because my sister was painting her nail in the room andneverr bother opening the door or window!

  2. No, that is too small. The floor space is too cramped. If you must use a tank, a 10 gallon or even 20 gallon would be good.

  3. A 5 gallon hex tank would be a pretty small area for a hamster.  It is a small base tank.  That would not be enough room for one.

If you want to use any kind of glass tank, a regular 10 gallon would be ideal.  If you do this, make sure you have a wire mesh top that is secure so that your hamster can not chew threw or push it off.  But if you keep a mesh top on it, it will do fine.  Just make sure you clean the tank regularly.

  4. NO dont put it in a 5 gallon hex if u put them in fish aquariums which IS ok dont let anyone tell u difrent u need at least a 10-20 gallon long aquarium

  5. When I was a kid, we kept hamsters in a fish tank with a screen top. As long as it's not filled with water, I think you'll be okay. :)

  6. it would most likely would be to small for a hamster.

  7. as long as the fish tank don't got water in it ill b ok. also b sure u got a cover and have fresh air going in and out of it.

  8. NOOOO!!!! DONT DO IT. u have to get a wire cage. u kno like the ones that that u usually see them in. but u may b able to put it in a fish tand. not sure. all i kno is wire cages are the best.

  9. nooo, cause they need alot of fresh air unless you got an add on that attaches on the top of it. they need alot of air.

  10. You could if wanted to be mean. Get a normal cage so it will be better suited to it.

  11. You'd want a tank that is wider than it is tall for the hamster has more surface area to run on.  We used to use 10 gallon tanks with a screen lid.

However, fish tanks don't make the best homes for rodents since they don't allow a free flow of air through the tank and it can cause a rodent to have respitory problems especially if your using a cedar or pine bedding.

  12. Yes a hamster can be kept in a fish tank, a wire cage is not a must, but a 5 gallon hex is to small. For 15$ at petsmart you can get a 10 gallon tank and for 30$ more you can add a second story to it.

Thats only 40$ not counting  bedding/huts and toys, not very much!

  13. if it can swim. yeah go for it
