can i keep a red belly piranha in a 20 gallon tank for life with my piranha being happy healthy and enough room

  1. You could keep it in a 2 gallon tank for life, but that life wouldn't be very long.

    You should have no problem keeping it for years in a 20 gallon tank, as long as it and the tank are taken proper care of.


  2. if by life you mean by a dramatically shortened lifespan then yes.

    red bellied piranhas are FAR too large for a 20 gallon at all, as well as being shoaling fish needing large shoals of their own kind. a red bellied piranha should be able to get anything from 12"-16", stick a ruler next to a 20 gallon tank and you'll see how that tank is just far too small. these fish should only be kept in large tanks over 150 gallons or left for public aquaria/the wild.

    this tank is approx 6-7ft long, 3ft tall, 3ft deep.
