I am going to buy a 10 or 20 gallon tank soon and i am expecting to breed my guppies that i have now, i want to know if i can keep the fry and eventually the adults in a 10 or 20 gal tank thats unfilterd, i dont want to get a filter cause i already have alot of tanks and i do not want the electrical bill to be off the charts. i will keep up with water changes, probably every 4 days. and i will attempt to keep the females and males appart.

  1. If you are going to have a number of fish, a filter is really important. Not only for cleanliness, but filters aerate the water and keep enough oxygen in it for your fish to survive. Non-filter situations only work well in a situation where you have one or two fish per tank.

  2. It's never good to keep any fish without a filter. That's like locking yourself in a house without a toilet. It's unfair to the fish. Are you planning on using an air feature? That takes electricity too. A light? Again electricity. If you can use these things then a filter won't be much more.

How are you planning on keeping the males and females apart? How do you intend for them to breed?

I have a 30 gallon guppy tank, but it's a proper set-up. They are pretty self contained, and nature keeps the balance.

  3. No u cannot do it without a filter. The fish need the circulation. Also the filter is a vital part in cycleing your tank, It provides a home for the bacteria. Hope I helped you! =)

  4. YOU WOULD NEED A FILTER AND A HEATER DEFINATELY IF YOU WANT IT TO SURVIVE FOR A WHILE. ANYWAY YOU CAN DEFINATELY GET GUPPIES WITHOUT FILTER BUT IT WOULD DIE WITHIN COUPLE OF DAYS - FISH DOCTOR
