  1. no carp are very messy fish and are better off in a large pond. they constantly stir the bottom looking for food and due to the fact they can grow 30lb plus need a large space to reach there potental.

they are not aquarium fish and even in a pond, without good fileration to keep the water clean you simply wont see them. to keep them without filters mostly depends on how many fish are in the pond and since oxygen will only enter the pond through surface tension rather than from pumps, the amount of fish you can keep will be greatly reduced.

koi are beautiful fish and unless you can provide the basic requriements for them i wouldnt bother, its heartbreaking to watch them die.

if you provide a big pond with some shade and a depth of at  least 4 feet, filters to pump the entire pond contents about every 2 hours then these are great pet that with time will recognise you and take food from your hand . this is an amazing expirence wen they grow large. having said that as with all animals they will need a level of care and i recommend anyone buying a new pet to buy the book first to learn their basic requirements.

  2. You can, but only if you make frequent and safe water changes. You'd be better off with a filter AND a pump, though often a filter is enough. Bigger fish create large amounts of waste, remember, and usually need a circulation of water to allow them to breathe.

  3. NO NO NO NO NO!.

unless u dont want ur koi to live long. lol

they are more sensitive and need optimal water conditions. they will need a superior water filtration system, with an advanced bio-filtration system as well. and remember these fish will grow to be around 2ft-4ft in legnth and will need 1,000's of gallons of water in order to properly take care of them.

  4. Get a filter they are pretty darn chep you can find em for like 10 bucks.

  5. you can if you got a super big pond with few kois in it.  But you can't have good condition kois unless you got a mud pond.   Since koi produce a lot of waste a filter is a must if you got very huge pond with few kois with water changes then there will be no problem

  6. Only if you have a HUGE pond, think like a small lake.

In a tank or a small pond you will need some form of filtration or else you will end up with water problems and dead fish.
