my regular gold fish are about 5 inches long, my black moor is 2 and 1/2 inches long, my regular goldfish are not very competitive, but at feeding time they tend to be very fast with going up to the tank and grabbing the food, when they turn to go back down, their tail splash out alot of water, im afraid when they do that they might hit the black moor, also how clean does my tank have to be for the black moor?

  1. It's not a good idea to keep fancy goldfish with commons.  The commons are just too quick and will take all the food and probably harass the moor.

  2. It is not reccomended to keep fancies and commons or commets. The reason is because some fish are way faster then others and it gives the faster fish an advantage to get food.also moores have bad eyesight so they should be kept by themselves or with other disabled fish

  3.     I love black moors! They are my favorite. I think it's okay to mix your goldfish. I love having all the different colors in one tank. I've always mixed the common goldfish with all the fancy goldfish and black moors and they all end up happy and fine. It's okay to mix goldfish as long as there's enough room in the tank for them to be happy.

And about the cleanliness part... Keep your tank as clean as you can because any type of fish will want a clean, happy home.

  4. I have a shubunkin and three fancies in my tank.

I didn't learn until AFTER getting the shubunkin that I shouldn't keep long-bodied goldfish with fancy goldfish.

I hand feed all of my fish though so that they each get enough to eat.

I use two hands, and feed the shubunkin at one side of the tank while dropping flakes for the fancies on the other side.

  5. Your regular goldfish are compatible with your black moor goldfish however, all telescope eyed goldfish are at a disadvantage at feeding time because they have very poor eye sight.  Many black moor goldfish eventually die of starvation because the other fish eat all the food before the black moor can get enough.  If your black moor is eating well and on the fat side, it might be able to fend for itself but if it is thin and not eating well you would be wise to keep it in another tank so you can make sure he gets plenty to eat.  If you can teach him to eat out of your hand or a spoon, that will help.  Also, if you give your goldfish a slice of orange fruit, they will enjoy it and benefit from the vitamin C and roughage.  Remove all the seeds before putting it into the tank and remove the remaining rind after an hour.

You do not need to worry about damage from fins hitting the black moor.  More damage is usually done by black moors swimming into sharp rocks.

All goldfish secrete a heavy body slime which eventually washes off into the water plus they p**p a lot compared to tropical fish so good filteration is important to them.  Good water circulation in the tank will also provide better oxygenation and minimize uneven temperature zones and help to exercise your fish.
