what is the different between series,paralell and series-paralell circuit?

for a series circuit, the elements are connected side by side. the current through each element is the same. Total resistance can be found by adding them up.

for parallel, the elements are connected like rungs of a ladder. the voltage running through each element is the same. Total resistance can be found by adding the inverse of each resistance then inversing the total.
