  1. A question for you whats under the linoleum? The subfloor is your biggest concern, next would be the condition of what you are are adhering the tile to. There should be no give or deflection in the subfloor. If your subfloor is suitable for tile I would recommend that if the linoleum is in good condition & down securely with no loose areas that you still put down a 1/4" hardibacker unless your over concrete in which case its scraping time.

Your adhesive should be a white latex modified thinset powder (sold @ Lowe's & Home Depot) as this will give you the best bond. Use a 1/4" x 1/4" notch trowl. NO MASTIC.

These suggestions should give you a permanent floor which in almost every case should be what tile is.

    Good Luck

  2. It depends on if your foundation is concrete or raised. If it is raised you need cement board and all necessary materials and tools to install, and can be done right over linoleum. If your foundation is concrete make sure there are no bubbling areas, in most cases you can use a thin set that is a multiple, or acrylic. Watch a vid on how to before you get started.

  3. no, tile needs a hard surface, tare up the old stuff

  4. if the linoleum ever gets wet or damp underneath...you could have a disaster of loosening tiles and grout.    best to remove the linoleum down to your sub surface.

  5. you can but its not recommended because you need the right underfloor.  if you were to do it you would use whatever is recomended with the material that you buy - otherwise it will void your warranty
