  1. There are some courses which are available which will teach you a "Language in 1 Day".

Of course, this doesn't make you fluent, but you can learn a vocabulary of around 60 odd words which will be enough to just get you by in many common situations.

In 2 months you could make serious headway into learning any language, but it would be very tough and you would have to work really hard at it.

  2. Hi,

My advice to you would be to get a job in Germany. I teach English here, have a German boyfriend and try and talk in German as much as I can.

German is very hard to learn and Germans will spot straight away that its not your native language and sometimes answer you in English - when you have asked a qustion in German.

You may be able to learn some German in 2 months - but it depends on how good you are at languages.

    Good luck

    xx

  3. First thing is to get rid of the idea that German is difficult. Secondly, find lots of books that teaches you the German language and you will also need to spend some time each day to practice your vocabulary.

Then get a friend (or even better a group of them) who speaks German (all the better if they are Germans) and practice with them. Avoid speaking English with them as much as you can in order to get a 'gist' of the German language.

    You'll be there, don't worry :-)

  4. Hello, I am from Germany!

I think you don't really have a chance to learn German in two months. German is one of the most difficult languages in the world and even if you would study it for a few years you wouldn't be able to speek it perfectly. In my school in Germany there is an exchanging trip to England every year. I am really sorry, but no one of the pupils who come to us is really able to speak german correctly (and they are studying for three years).

If you just want to get basic knowledge you have a good chance but it'll be a hard job. You can use the Langenscheidt dictionaries (there really good).

Sorry if I made some mistakes (I hope my English is not too bad) and I hope I was able to help you!

    Viel Glück!

  5. Put a german book under your pillow and sleep on it nightly!

There is no way, you can learn the language that fast.

  6. It would be hard, especially if you have no experience in German.  Look up books and completely immerse yourself in the language.  Label everything, talk to German speakers, visit local Germantowns, etc.

  7. In 2 months, if you do a crash course you will be able to buy food, ask for direction, etc

If you only want to function in Germany, you can learn a lot in that sort of course.

If you want to speak correctly, you need at least 5 years, 4 years to understand and work with the grammar, the rest for expanding your vocabulary. Contrary to french or spanish, german is difficult to learn at the beginning but gets easier in time.

It always depends on how well you hope to speak.

  8. Berlitz!!

Well, actually, if you want to learn just the basics, especially for travel, I find the Langendscheidt's mini yellow books are fantastic.  They tell you everything from how to say hello to making polite conversation to picking someone up from a bar!

I have the German one and it is good and inexpensive.

    Good luck! Auf Wiedersehen!

  9. A friend of mine is now in Germany: she took an intensive course for 2 months and she starts getting along quite well with the language.

The most serious problem imo is that you might be able to ask relevant questions after 2 months, but you won't necessarily understand the answers! Germans have often quite an accent and getting used to the way people speak takes a while.
