  1. Yep  you can,, Just have to find what you want

and find a owner who will lease one to you,,

There is No law against that ,,

Some will be happy to lease you a mare , You problay won't get a top mare, because they will want to breed her to their studs ,

Just call up farms and ask ,, They will want to know if your a trust full person with horse knowledge,

Lots of contracts to sign ,,

    Good luck

  2. Though I am not sure in the thoroughbred industry I know it is a common occurence in other parts of the equine industry.  You do have to let the owner of the horse know that is why you intend to lease the horse, as long as the owner is offering her for lease that is...you can't just walk up to the owner of your favorite mare and tell them you are going to lease and breed their mare.  Once you have the owner's agreement I would sit down with the owner, a lawyer and a horse expert that has bred a horse before to discuss the wording of the lease and who would be responsible for what.  You should probably contact the Jockey Club as well to make sure it is legal with them, you may have to be registered with them to do this and you will certainly need to make sure the mare is registered and you will have to register the foal as well in order to race it.
