  1. You will need a source of daytime lighting which can be provided by using a reptile daytime spot light. This will also provide a source of heat and a basking spot. You may also wish to provide a nighttime bulb or ceramic heater to maintain the temperature at night without the bright light which would disturb the snake at night. Do not use a white light at night! You should provide an overall enclosure temperature of 80-85°F with a basking spot around 95°F. Night time temperatures can drop to 75-80°F, but no drop is required. If using light bulbs for heat, be sure that they are placed in such a way that the snake cannot contact any hot surfaces. You can also provide heat through under tank heaters and specialty reptile heating platforms. Be sure to use a thermoregulator to allow for better control over the temperature. The heated area does need to be large enough for the entire snake to bask. I know many people will disagree with them needing UVb, but in the wild they receive small amounts at dusk and dawn(they do sometimes bask at these times) and diffused penetration between rocks, bark and other cover. This is why I advise the use of a bulb that has low UV measurements. Any fluorescent full spectrum plant/aquarium bulb for the day or Flukers Repta-Sun Black Light Bulb at night. The combination of a heat pad and light(or heat emitter) work best.

  2. as for the two answers above me, your snake gets nothing from the sun it is nocturnal (active at night) it gets all the vitamins and calcium it needs from the food it eats. if using a light for heat you can leave it on at night but get a heat bulb. i would use a red or blue heat bulb you can get for cheap at any pet store. NEVER NEVER EVER use a heat rock they get way to hot and will burn your snake and even cook them to death.

  3. its best that you buy a heat stone that your snake can lay on and get warm maybe turn the heat lamp on only in very cold situations. if you have the heat stone then the snake can regulate when he wants to get warmer.  with the light its always hot in the cage and he cant escape from that.  i used to have a burmese python and he loved the heat stone.  you can get them at petsmart...hope this helps

  4. If you are using a regular household light bulb, no. They need a day/night cycle you can't make it day time all the time. Look into getting a ceramic bulb or an incandescent red or blue bulb, the red/blue light won't bother them and a ceramic bulb doesn't put out any light. Always be sure to have your heat sources hooked up to a thermostat.

  5. well, for my ball python, I leave the heat lamp on 24/7, but at night I just tune down the heat a couple degrees.

but, NEVER get a heat rock/stone.

and when you can, you should really get an actual heat lamp bulb.

Most people leave the lamp on 24/7

Since snakes are cold-blooded, they need a good supply of heat to survive.

It cant hurt or kill him if you leave it on all night, but the tank should stay between 82-90 degrees ALWAYS

too cold or too hot could be a bad enviorment for your poor snake.

So, you should leave it on to keep your snake warm throughout the night!!

    Hope I helped ;]

  6. As im sure you know - snakes dont feel heat so just be sure not to leave the light to close to the tank so that he doesn't burn.  A regular bulb will do nothing for your snake and you should really look into a full spectrum bulb that will give him the needed vitamins he needs from the sun that he wont get in captivity.
