  1. I hear you asking a question, I'm perplexed about the nature of the question.  Were seats there before or is this brand new seat stuff.  Even in a van that doesn't have seats now, there still should be mounting holes, etc to put in new seats, and seat belts should be no problem.  I go to wrecking yards and pick up really good seat belts like new and install them.  You're certified.

  2. Yes, you can do it quite legally as long as the seats and the belts are safely and securely fitted.  It's just a matter of how confident you are with your skills. I've done it several times, usually it requires additional steel welding on to reinforce the mounting points.

I'd be inclined to ask an MoT tester, or at least a mechanic, to look at your particular van and give you advice about suitable mounting etc.

  3. no,its perfectly a DIY job...i fitted a pair of seats in the rear on a fiesta combi van, with seatbelts...went through the mot no problems....

  4. anybody can do it.just make sure the belts are secure enough to his triple a persons weight

  5. You can, but the classification of the vehicle changes from a Commercial vehicle to a passenger carrying vehicle. This means the Custom and Excise can make you pay more duty and VAT on the van. You also have to notify the DVLA of the changes made, as well as your insurers which will increase your premium.

Furthermore, the seating has to be to British Standards or you will be refused an MOT test.

  6. Yes, you can do it yourself, but it will have to pass the MOT.

I refitted an ex-ambulance as a camper van / theatre touring van with no big problems - lots of people do.

    I used

for fixtures and fittings, they were fine, but I am sure there are other firms just as good.

Basically, you can do anything  - change your own brake fluid, brake pads, engine, crankshaft, fixtures and fittings, whatever - as long as the vehicle is roadworthy. That's what's checked by the MOT.

Anybody with a brain makes sure their vehicle is roadworthy anyway.

[I'm assuming you are not thinking of turning something into a PSV class vehicle - that is a different kettle of fish.]

  7. No, anyone can do it, and the seat & belt mountings will be checked at the next MOT test.

  8. you can do it and its legal go to any good auto store for more help, but it may need a more specialsit type dealer

  9. you can do it yourself, as long as they are secure and the belts work like they should. they are suppose to tighten up as soon as you hit your brakes.
