I'm 14 years old and I'm thinking about moving in Japan (Chiba, Okinawa,..?). Can I move there when I'm 17 or 18? I'm learning Hirigana and Katakana and the Japanese language. I'm Filipino-American

Things I want to know:

~How much it cost to go to an international school.

~How people will see me

~Will people be nice to me

~What do I need to go there

  1. ~How much it cost to go to an international school.

~What do I need to go there

First, you have to decide whether you go to high school or college in Japan. Since high school is for people at the age of 15-18, you should go to college if you move to Japan at 18.

There is no "international college" in Japan. Or there is only one, Temple University.

If you mean you want to take classes in English, TU will be the only option for you. To join other Japanese colleges, you need to have native level Japanese.

And if you go to college for 4 years in Japan, tuition and living cost will be around $80,000. You have to prepare this amount to get student visa.

    ~How people will see me

~Will people be nice to me

    It's all up to you.

  2. More or less. no. Schools there are VERY expensive.

People will see you as a gaijin.

Most people will be nice to you.

You need a four year degree to work in Japan. And a job offer to get the work visa.

And no, you just can't move there and say "here I am". This is not allowed.

You're off to a good start though.Learn as much Japanese as you can. Things may change in four years.

Check out the web sites below.

Too bad for you most Japanese people wish you would stay home.

  4. Hey!! I'm trying to go Japan too. Anyway to answer your question, are you planning on going to collage??? If you are, then it might be a little easier to do an exchange program through that collage. But then again, to do it while in high school is about $7,000+. So I don't really know which would work best for you. but google "foreign student exchange program" and lots of different results will come. Each program is different. That's what I'm looking into also ^^

I think that the summer program (June to August) are cheaper than the school year version, whichi is about 6 months. You choose.

People in Japan will be very gracious and will understand that you are a forigner. You mightnot fit exactly, but the people are welcoming and patient.

If you are planning to pay for all of this on your own, I suggest you get a bank account and a job. Start saving RIGHT AWAY!!! It's going to take alot of money. Japan is very expensive. and Yen rates keep changing.

Japanese people eat American food and like alot of american music and western things in general. But the Japanese have great music and entertainment. I really REALLY like KAT-TUN, Hey! Say! JUMP, YUI, Ikimonogakari, Utada hikaru, etc. (You've probably heard of them)

the japanese eat a lot of rice and noodles, sushi, etc. Oh, I could go on and on, but I'll just stop here. Hope I helped!!!
