Can i make a pandora's battery without a modded psp?

i know how to open it up and snip the wires but im wondering if you need a modded psp to do that.

there is a pin mod for the battery but they arnt all the same and not all batteries work, if u go and look on ebay u can get one pre done for $20-30, but here is the video that shows u how to do it

and u dont need a custom firmware psp to use the pandora
