  1. of course you can... but you will need a program such as,, Ulead video studio 6.. you will need this to capture the footage and save it as a file..

also you will need  a fast usb socket on your laptop.. it looks like a normal one but it slightly fatter and has 1 tapered side. and of course the cable to connect the the cam to the laptop. its also possible if you have a s-video socket on your laptop.

such programs that Nero..... Adobe.. and Ulead have usually let you create the whole movie from Mini DV to DVD. it will take some patience and some time reading a 1 or 2 help articles as not all these programs let you do it first time.

hope it helped.. try googling "movie editor software" or something and read product reviews =Þ

  2. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your laptop probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one (make sure your laptop has an empty bay) and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

  3. Yes.  You'll need to capture the video via firewire rather than USB - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card.  They're cheap, easy to install and readily available.  You'll also need a firewire cable.

Once everything's connected you can capture and edit the video with Windows Movie Maker (should already be on your PC), save it as DV-AVI (it's under Save on My Computer, Best quality show more choices, Other settings) and then write it to DVD using DVD Flick.

WMM isn't the greatest editor, but it's enough to get you going.  If you want to do more, have a look at things like Sony's Vegas Movie Studio.

  4. Hi I have a MiniDV CamCorder (Sony) and I also have a Laptop and do that all the time, I import the video using a DV cable (I payed $10 on TradeMe) and edit in Windows Movie Maker or one of the programs in the Adobe suit (Adobe is not free but is worth the money).

  5. The other answers are pretty comprehensive, but left out one or two details - Do you have a DVD burner and do you have a DVD creation program?
