also, any ideas HOW and WHEN to unlock my phone to activate the SIM card? do i unlock it now or in the PI?

  1. Contacting long distance people in a different part of the country will require a certain phone capabities. Check with your mobile phone provider on whether or not your phone is capable of out of country roaming. This means that if your phone is capable of this, then you will be on a new network for your phone as long as you are in that country. Once you arrive back into the United States the roaming will be deactivated. Like i said, please check with your local mobile phone provider on whether your phone has the right capabilities.

    Hope this helps you :]

    Enjoy your trip :]

  2. I have come across a phone service that allows you to make international calls by simply dialing a local rate phone number. So if you can make free local calls (free inclusive minutes on your phone tariff), then this will be included and the international call will be free. See the links below for more details.... I have been using this service for over 12 months now and i also noticed that there is a special offer for new customers....
