  1. It actually depends on what equipment you have. If it's an Air Handler with a factory installed coil, it is very possible that it can be switched to verticle. Most Air handlers ship from the factory with 2 pans installed (one for horizontal and one for verticle drainage). If you have a gas furnace then it would depend on the coil that is installed but it is doubtful.

Oh, and refrigerant doesn't care what position the coil is in as the poster above me noted. I got a chuckle out of that one =)

  2. It would be very difficult if at all possible. Horizontals use a SLAB coil. The coil is placed across the air flow in a tunnel so all passing air is forced through the coil. it drains the water it takes from the air along its bottom edge while the air flows straight through it. In a vertical system they use an "A" coil air flows up through the "A". Drainage for this coil is at the bottom of the legs on the "A:.

  3. simple no!

  4. no it is designed to stay vertical ,never mind the water all over the floor..........the fluids and gases  won't enter or leave the compressor properly, don't do it............tom

  5. I'm afraid not. The water condensation from the evaporator coils and fins drips down to the bottom pan and to a drain hole. It is designed that way for horizontal mounting. If you mount them vertically, the water condensate may get into the mechanics and electricals of the air conditioner and cause premature death. If you're handy with sheet metal fabrication, you may be able to fabricate a channel for the water to exit from the bottom SIDE of the air conditioner.
