i intend on claiming her for her residence status after i become a citizen.

my question is:

does it affect my citizenship application if i get married between the time of the interview and the day i actually get sworn in and become a citizen?

  1. The simple answer is YES. However, if you follow through with your plan as described in your question, you'll create a rocky road to drive toward getting her permanent resident status.

The smoother approach would be:  You become a citizen. You file a form I-129f to petition the government to grant her K-1 fiance status. The petition gets approved. It is forwarded to the U.S. visa office close to where she lives outside the U.S.

She goes to the visa office and applies for a K-1 visa. She comes to the U.S. with the K-1 visa and is given a permit valid for 90 days. During that 90 day period, you guys get married.

Then she applies for adjustment of status to permanent resident. That application is approved. She gets a conditional permanent resident status and a green card valid for two years. When that card is about to expire, you file an application to remove the conditional status.

Any other route you want to take will be full of pitfalls, bumps, detours, pot holes, and extra driving expenses.
