  1. Of course you can marry in the UK, doesn't matter what nationality you have, because your fiancee is the UK citizen.

When you arrive you need to get married within 6 months after your arrival. You will be allowed to stay in the UK for six months but without permission to work. When you are married or have registered a civil partnership, you can apply for a two-year extension to your visa and, if your application is granted, you will be allowed to work. Near the end of this time, you can apply to stay in the UK permanently.

For a visa you must apply at the nearest visa application centre in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore or Mirpur.

You will need to fill in the following visa application form:

You will also need the following:

    Your passport or travel document.

    A recent passport-sized (45mm x 35mm), colour photograph of yourself.

    This should be:

taken against a light coloured background

clear and of good quality, and not framed or backed

printed on normal photographic paper, and

full face and without sunglasses, hat or other head covering unless you wear this for cultural or religious reasons (but the face must not be covered).

The visa fee. This cannot be refunded and you must normally pay it in the local currency of the country where you are applying.

Supporting documents relevant to your application

    Supporting documents are:

    Your original birth certificate.

Recent bank statements or savings books for your sponsor and evidence of your sponsor's employment in the UK, which could include payslips to show what financial support you have.

Letters from you and your sponsor that are relevant to your application.

If you have been married or in a civil partnership before, one of the following original documents:

    a divorce certificate

    a final dissolution order, or

your or your sponsor's previous husband's, wife's or civil partner's death certificate

Evidence that your sponsor is settled in the UK. (This can be a copy of their passport or registration certificate that has been confirmed as a true copy, in other words 'certified').

    Visa fees are here

If you are applying to settle in the UK, in most cases your application will be processed within 12 weeks.

If you are over 18 and have been living in the United Kingdom for the last five years (or three years if you are married to a British citizen) you may be able to apply for naturalisation as a British citizen.

There are seven requirements you need to meet before you apply for the citizenship:

you are aged 18 or over; and

you are of sound mind; and

you can communicate in English, Welsh or Scottish Gaelic to an acceptable degree; and

you have sufficient knowledge of life in the United Kingdom; and

you are of good character; and

you are the husband, wife or civil partner of a British citizen; and

    you meet the residential requirements

If your application for British nationality is successful you will be able to apply for a British passport.

British passports are issued by the Identity and Passport Service (IPS).

All adult customers (aged 16 and over) applying for a passport for the first time must attend an interview with IPS in person to confirm their identity. IPS recommends you allow six weeks for your passport application to be processed. You should not make any travel arrangement until you receive your passport.
