Can i obtain irish citizenship if i have a son who has an irish passport?

i have a son who has an irish passport and lives in england with his mum.he´s mum is irish.im a south african with a south african passport living in munich germany with my german wife.my wife and i went on holiday to ireland and loved it so much that we want to live there.i would like to know if i would qualify for residency based on the fact that i have a son with an irish passport.i know that i could live there because my wife is an EU citizen but i just wanted to know if it could work the other way around.please help with your answers.

No and you would have to do the Irish citizen test (its easy and its only pictures my friend told me )

Residency and citizenship are two entirely different things. You will definitely qualify for residency, provided you move there with your German wife or are sponsored by your son. But citizenship is subject to a large number of further criteria, including but not limited to years of uninterrupted residency, demonstration of the knowledge of the local language and history, civic structures, etc.

You generally have to live in a country for many years before you are eligible to apply for citizenship.

It depends on how old your son is and whether he is actually Irish born.

3 and a half years ago we had a BIG referendum in Ireland. It was to determine whether the parents of Irish born children would automatically get citizenship. This now does NOT apply.

See, immigrants were coming here from poorer countries to have babies and get citizenship here. That is now stopped, like in all of Europe.

If he is not Irish born you cannot get citizenship.

If he is younger than 3 and a half you cannot get citizenship.
