  1. Saffire, I opened one on a visitor's visa with the Bank Of America.

    But I had an address within the US at the time.

    That was all it required THEN.

    I checked their website and to open a regular savings account (online) you need:

       Social Security Number  

       Credit card, debit card, or bank account number  

       Current email address  

       Online Banking passcode (if applicable)  



    I doubt it would be any different to open an account from a branch.

    But the cool thing about this website is you can chat online now to a specialist.

    Alternatively, it is worth phoning a couple of different banks and make general enquiries.

    I know that here in Australia all a US citizen needs is a passport and an address to open an account.

    But it is far easier to do if done within six weeks of arriving here.
