Yeah but you might not be able to see.

yes you can, but i wouldn't recommend it.  you may loose your contacts and the chlorine can damage your eyes.  spend the $10-15 for a pair of goggles.  after all you'll have 10 bucks many times in your life, but you only have one pair of eyes.

I tried it with an old pair of gas permeable and they stayed in without goggles. You have to be very carefull about infection though as you can get pretty serious problems.

my doctor recommended that i have one pair that is used for swimming only.. he said to make sure i wash them out every time right after i get out.. and only use them for swimming since the chemicals seem to wear them out
