i am painting my bathroom and i'm excited to get started. Can i paint the "cut in" or whatever, all around the edges with the paint brush, and then roll on the rest of the paint in 2 days from now? (my next day off work) will the paint look even if i dont do it all at once?

  1. Wild eyes is right..I am a 37 year experinced painter and there is only one way...If the paint is a flat finish..it will work..if the paint has any sheen at all it will "picture frame on you...Matte,satin,eggshell,semi gloss or gloss will definately show the next day...You need to what we call "keep a wet edge"...on any sheened paint.. Your plan of cutting in one wall then rolling it out.."squaring up" on a corner will work fine..that would be the best way with any sheened paint...which should be sheened at least a satin or eggshell in a bathroom..

  2. well, i am only telling you from experience of being with my ex-husband, who is a painter...he would freak if he saw u leaving the paint on there and waiting another day to finish. He says that it leaves an overlapping look, especially if its in the middle of the wall. it will leave something called "flashing". I guess you will see where it has ended and started. You should never let the paint dry.(Never overlap onto dry paint). Work as quickly as you can so this does not happen.

  3. Yes ... but you have to "feather" the edges in towards the center ... brush it towards the center in a raggedy edge that fades to nothing.  This keeps you from getting a heavy layer of paint right around the edge that looks bad in some lights.

  4. Yes, if you can't do it all at once, then do as many total walls as you can at a time. Any differences will blend into the shadow of the corners. Remember to mix the last of one container with the start of the next one. If you put 2 or 3 drops of vanilla into each container, the smell will not be as strong. If it is very humid where you live, it is better to run the air conditioning, so it dries more evenly and will not run or sag.
