  1. Geoff and Sunnie are correct, the cure time is 4 weeks, so wait, or take the advice of the others and suffer the consequences.

You may be ok to paint, but why risk it?

  2. They do say wait 6 weeks - on the other hand it's been very warm lately so assuming that you have been ventilating the room you're probably ok.

  3. Yes, put a few coat's on it. the first coat will disappear, but after that you should be OK

  4. Yes.  There is no primer for new plaster.  You apply three coats of water-based emulsion.  The first coat needs to be thinned out (consistancy of milk) to soak into and grab the plaster (That effectively is the primer).

If your plaster was a skim coat over plasterboard then you can use emulsion with or without vinyl in it.  However, on a ceiling I would recommend one without vinyl as it is more forgiving and will show your painting imperfections less.

EDIT: Re drying times.  If you just had a skim plaster over plasterboard then you can paint as soon as it goes light pink (usually 3-4 days) with either vinyl or non-vinyl emulsion.

If you have had a skim coat over a render (sand and cement) base then this takes 12-18 months to fully dry and you use a non-vinyl emulsion and the walls continue to dry through the paint..  (vinyl emulsion stops the water evaporating and the walls drying out)

  5. yea i think so

  6. Geoff is right, they recommend 4 - 6 weeks, so I would wait at least 2 weeks just to be on the safe side.

  7. you should be able to now as long as the plaster has no wet spots you should be fine.

  8. Yes, but use a primer or watered down emulsion for the first coat.
