Can i pick up from outside gatwick airport by car?

I am collecting family from gatwick and wondered if I can pick up outside terminal or do I have to park the car and go into arrivals?

You have to use the short stay car park. But be prepared to be shooed off by attendants if you stay for over 10 minutes :-)

Apparently not.  This from the Gatewick website:

Private vehicles picking up passengers from the airport will be directed to use Short Stay Car Park 3 (orange).
