  1. Trials bikes offer this configuration,so it can be done.

It can be done an other way but the cost of the components is high and it takes a true skilled bike mech to make it so .

This involes using a bottom bracket adapter, then an adjustable[left/right] bottom bracket and a 3 piece system.

Go to a bike shop that has a skilled  mechanic there and they might know how.

Perhaps,as well, you might try a larger front ring but also a larger rear sprocket to achieve your desired ratio.

A gear ratio is what you desire truly,I think, not simply a 25 tooth front ring.[I'm guessing]

Bottom line this is absolutely possible just not cost effeciant or easy.

I hope this can be of help in some way.

  2. It depends on how the sprocket is attached to your crank.  1 piece cranks are generally cheaper poorly produced cranks as opposed to the standard 3-piece cottered cranks.  What it depends on is how the sprocket is bolted on to your crank.  Some of the front cogs are stamped onto the crank itself with no way to remove the bolts attaching it to the crank.  These you cannot remove.  If you can take out the stack bolts with a hex key or wrench, then it is possible to change out the chainring.  The real problem you will run into is finding a compatible chainring to replace your old one, as the bolt circle diameter will probably be different from most 3-piece cranks and thus will not be compatible.

If all you are wanting to do is change your gear ratio, it may be easier and cheaper to replace your rear gearing into a higher (less teeth, faster) or lower (more teeth, slower) sprocket in the back.
