Can i put a blow off valve on my 2003 vw gti 1.8T?

i know i can put one on but i read that its not good for your car. If i shouldnt, could i buy a diverter valve that sounds like a bov or something like that?

  1. Blow off valves are a good thing. When you let off the throttle or change gears (if your car is standard), the pressure that's built up from the turbo has to go somewhere. Better to go through a BOV than through your intake system!


  2. yeah u can get an after market bov (blow off valve) to make the pshhhh sound but it cant be like a racing bov made form hks or greddy cuz if u do then you'll stress out ur turbo

  3. dont worry about it. if you want, just go pshhhhhhh every time you shift.

  4. You could.....but a diverter valve (in my opinion) is better.  With a blow off valve, air metered by the mass airflow sensor is vented into the atmosphere causing the engine to run rich, with a diverter valve this doesn't happen.  Just make the noise yourself if you really want it...
