Can i put a different gearbox on my car?

hey i have a 1978 valiant sedan, it has 265 slant six hemi with a 3 speed automatic gearbox, i want to put a 5 speed manual gearbox in but i'm not sure if it can be done, can it i make the change and what will it take?
