  1. A 5 gallon tank is a minimum for one dwarf puffer. You could fit two in a 10 gallon tank, but be sure you have plants and hiding places so they dont get too territorial. They don't eat tropical fish flakes, they only eat live worms/snails. They also need a heater and a filter. Make sure to cycle you tank first, and make sure your ammonia levels are 0, nitrate 0, and nitrate >10 (under 10)

  2. If you are just going to have one, 10 Gallon should be fine with good filtration.  Use an undergravel filter as well as an over the side one.  Also, I like real plants, but sometimes a hassle...so lots of silk plants (or Plastic) your preference.  These fish need lots of hiding spaces and plant cover.  Even by themselves.

These little buggers are a bit aggressive...so I would stick to one, especially in a 10 Gallon.  Consider going to bigger tank and if you have lots of cover, maybe 2...but beware with other fish...they maybe small, yet they are fin nippers.

I have a couple of friends who have dwarf puffer and have seen the tank and the little guys each of them has (1 dwarf puffer per friend).  They are cool little fish and seem real content in heavily planted tanks.

I searched your question and came up with lots of info...but the link here is from a year ago from yahoo answers and this guy seems to know what he is talking about.  Very informative answer.  Hope this helps.
